If you want to accommodate more people into your dining space, go for table extensions that help you attach and elongate when needed and fold or detach when unused.
The Breakfast Bar is another type of dining table. These are usually smaller in size than standard dining tables; however, some have very interesting features that make them unique in their own right. For example, it is not uncommon to see breakfast bars with locking casters for added mobility and convenience. Some will also have cubbies and racks for added storage.
Wood furniture has always been regarded with high esteem. Before the industrial revolution wooden furniture was crafted by hand requiring hours of skilled labour to produce. Because of the effort needed to create a single piece of furniture items were built with long lasting craftsmanship. A person could rely on a chair or table that was handmade to last decades if not hundreds of years. Even today the quality and value of wooden furniture is not lost. Craftsmen still produce wooden furniture, some by hand others by manufactured means but all still depend on the same level of quality their customer have. To create furniture that can last craftsmen must choose woods that are not only strong and hard but beautiful as well. Oak wood has been a favourite of furniture makers for hundreds of year for these very reasons. Oak comes in a variety of shades from blond to medium brown and is one of the hardest and most durable of all furniture grade woods.
The best way to determine what size your dining table should be would be to measure the room and ensure that there will be at least three to four feet on each side of the table for people to push their chairs back and stand up comfortably. Setting a small, dainty table in a large and spacious room will be too overwhelming in the room, therefore making the table look smaller than it actually is. On the other hand, a large table in a small space will not allow room for people to get up from the table and move around. So, finding the right sized table for the room is going to be vital.
To allow each person to have ample elbow space when they are eating, you should select a dining table that provides at least 24 to 30 inches of surface area for each person. If you are purchasing a rectangular table, you will need to add about 12 inches of surface space for the people who are seated at the foot and the head of the table. Additionally, picture the table in the room that you are purchasing it for. Will it look proportionate to the room? Will the dining room swallow the table up? Will the table look overwhelming in the room? These are important factors when purchasing a table for a dining area.
Chairs: Most people find it difficult to choose the right type of chairs to match with the tables. Take time to find the right type of chairs that are both comfortable and elegant in appearance. It is not uncommon to buy chairs from one dealer and table from another dealer.
