The modern dining room has evolved quite a ways since the castle of medieval Europe. Today a dining room can have multiple functions from eating to entertainment. As a result dining room furniture has grown from the basic table and chairs. Often dining room sets will include cabinets for dishes, small side tables and even lighting accessories to compliment traditional furniture.
Shape - The key factor is the way, if possible, a square table is ideal in a square room and a rectangular dining table will look beautiful in a rectangular room. You have a diversity of eating tables, oval-shaped, too. The round and oval shaped tables to provide your dining room look roomy and relaxed. It's a good idea to prefer a round or oval table that provides elegance dining with a mix of a contemporary look.
The dining set, comprising of dining table and chairs, is the focal point of the dining room décor. The table and chairs that you select for the dining space should be complementary to the environment of the room.
First, the Accent Table. These are standard dining tables, however very ornately designed to provide a sense of classic romance. The type you might imagine inside the palaces or mansions of your favorite storybook.
The dining table should be scaled appropriately for the room: a small dining room looks best with a small table, a big dining room demands a big table. To allow adequate space for seating and circulation, make sure there's at least 48 inches between each edge of the table and the nearest wall or piece of furniture. If traffic doesn't pass behind the chairs on one side of the table, 36 inches should be sufficient on that side because the 'Entryway' is more congested then any other part of the house. Ideally, the dining table should measure 36-42 inches across. Narrower than that leaves no place in the middle for food; wider than that makes conversation difficult with the person seated opposite you.
The focal point of every dining room has to be the dining table. Without its presence, the dining room is essentially just a game - think musical chairs: a bunch of chairs in a circle, with nothing in the middle. If that was the case, then quick! Grab a chair or you'll be left to eat while standing. Starting to see why dining tables make such an impact in our daily lives? Let's face it, without them we wouldn't be able to have a nice family dinner, or entertain guests at a house party.
